Ear Wax Micro suction

The accumulation of ear wax in the ear canal can be very distressing especially for the elderly, young children and people with learning difficulties.  The symptoms to look out for are:

  • A decrease or muffled hearing,
  • Pain and discomfort,
  • Itchiness and ringing in the ears.

We use the latest ear wax Micro suctioning method, where the wax is suctioned at a low pressure gently out of your ears.  This method is less intrusive than other methods.

We advise the use of ear drops 2 to 3 times a day for 3 to 4 days prior to your appointment, for the best suctioning results.

Why do we produce ear wax?

Most patients ask the question all the time. ‘Why do I produce ear wax?’

Earwax is also known as a thick fluid called Cerumen, which helps to push waste out of the ear canal such as debris, sweat and dead cells.  Everyone produces a different amount of ear wax; yellow, brown or even orange.  Excess ear wax results in hearing loss or ear discomfort.  Some people tend to produce more ear wax due to high levels of stress and also because they have excessive dry skin, thus producing more debris in the ears.  The thick Cerumen fluid is beneficial to moisturise your ear canal protecting it from dryness and itchiness.

Other interesting facts about earwax;

People with African and European ancestors tend to have moistened ear wax compare to Asian descent.
