What Is A Composite Filling? What Is A Composite Filling

The tooth coloured (Composite) fillings have become increasingly popular due to its ability to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing. This filling can be used either on the front or back teeth. They are a good choice for people who prefer that their fillings look more natural.

Why Choose Composite Fillings?

There are many types of tooth fillings. Most fillings used today are made of either gold, amalgam, composite, or porcelain. Composite fillings provide excellent durability and resistance to fractures. They are less expensive than gold fillings and do not expand and contract like amalgam fillings. Moreover, the natural colouring of composite makes it the preferred material for fillings among our patients. They are more aesthetically used in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.

How are composite fillings done?

Composite fillings can be done at one appointment.  While the tooth is numb, your dentist will remove decay as necessary.  Space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed.  If the decay is near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection.  The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.
